2017 is off to a great start!

We saw a lot of huge milestones as an organization last year. From registering as a legitimate non-profit to opening a bank account to officially partnering with the Aurora Worship Collective, a lot happened! This trend has continued into 2017 so we thought it wise and timely to brief our community of some exciting changes and their implications.

First off, we have a beautiful new website. You can find out more about our current and past ministry partners, read up on the Closer to Love staff, and view our archive of blog posts. While you're here, you may notice several new additions to the team! You're not crazy, it's true, we've nearly doubled in size. At our first team meeting in January we introduced the catalyze, connect, and celebrate teams. These sub-groups or "C-Teams"  as we're dubbing them will allow us to operate more efficiently and more effectively in fulfilling our mission:

"THE CLOSER TO LOVE MOVEMENT IS A CONDUIT FOR COMMUNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST TO CATALYZE, CONNECT, AND CELEBRATE WHAT GOD IS DOING IN THE CITY."

  • Catalyze Team: Resource and prepare churches, nonprofits, and individuals to better impact their areas of influence
  • Connect Team: Bridge churches, nonprofits, and individuals to one another
  • Celebrate Team: Bring awareness to and honor what the Lord is doing through CTL, the global Church, nonprofits, and individuals

Spotlight Ministry: Kim's Open Door

Few can capture the attention of a child like Kim Bogart. Everywhere she goes songs burst forth and color flashes onto the dull pages of life. She is animated, contagious and captivating. But more than anything, she is radiant with the love of the Father for His children. She is a woman that has been marked by His love and compassion and will not stop until the city’s most vulnerable children are cared for and know the love of their heavenly Father.

Each of us has had or will have in our lives those catalyzing moments that seem to change everything. Moments that seem to suck the oxygen from the room, where all of life comes together at a central point and requires action of us. For Kim, one of these catalyzing moments occurred when reading the headline of a local newspaper. Here is how she responded:

"THIRTY-ONE SHOOTINGS IN THIRTY DAYS IN MY CITY, ALL GANG RELATED AND ELEVEN-YEAR OLD KIDS WERE INVOLVED. THESE HEADLINES INSPIRED ME TO RESIGN FROM A JOB I LOVED FOR FIFTEEN YEARS TO BECOME A FULL-TIME MISSIONARY TO THE UNITED STATES."

She never looked back. She founded Kim’s Open Door in 2013 and is committed to inspire, empower and mobilize quality community champions who serve at-risk kids in all kinds of wonderful ways. Kim trains and mobilizes literally thousands of people on behalf of vulnerable children every year both here and abroad.
